Roseann Sheridan’s diversified career as a director, producer and educator includes over 20 years of professional theatre experience, university-level teaching experience and a variety of work in television and film.

From 1996-2003 she was the Associate Artistic Director at American Players Theatre (APT), the second largest classical repertory theatre in the country. At APT she was responsible for casting & artistic hiring, season planning, line producing, and budget development and management. Prior to moving into her role as Associate Artistic Director at APT, she served as Associate Producer for eight years, facilitating the execution of production designs, overseeing production operations, and managing all artistic and production expenses. During her tenure at APT, she was integrally involved with the strategic planning which resulted in the design and construction of new production facilities and major theatre renovation. Other milestones of her career at APT include the establishment of a core company of actors, development of the acting internship program, and a direct role in improving the financial health of the organization (tripled budget during tenure).

In fall 2003, Roseann left her position as Associate Artistic Director to pursue professional directing and teaching opportunities. Since then, she has worked in the Midwest and on the East coast, directing for professional theatres and universities, teaching acting, and producing Madison Repertory Theatre’s New Play Festival. In 2004, she co-created a one-woman show and began to form professional relationships with several playwrights through her work with the Madison New Play Festival.

Roseann has a rare combination of the ability to see the big picture and to manage the details; she is an artistic visionary and is adept at turning ideas into plans, visions into strategies, and goals into budgets. Her background in design and technical theatre affords her strong communication skills with her creative collaborators.

Roseann is a text-based director with particular strengths in directing Shakespeare. Her work reflects her verbal aesthetic: that the world of the play is given by a specific regard to language. She has a keen eye for talent and is an excellent casting director. Her productions are consistently noted for strong acting, beautiful staging, and dynamic storytelling.

Roseann holds an MFA in Directing from Virginia Commonwealth University and a BA in Russian Studies and Theatre/Speech Communications from the University of Richmond, VA. She grew up in the Washington DC area and currently lives in Madison, Wisconsin.
